CLIMATE MANAGEMENT

The Center for Climate Management of the Western Ukrainian National University is a structural unit of the Educational and Research Institute of Innovation, Environmental Management and Infrastructure of the Western Ukrainian National University within the framework of the international ERASMUS+ project: Synergy of educational, scientific, managerial and industrial components for climate management and climate change prevention. (619119-EPP-1-2020-1-NL- EPPKA-2-CBHE-JP) CLIMAN.

The aim of the project is to help universities in Georgia and Ukraine become centers for the development of climate management research to accelerate integration into the global climate market and implement global climate regulation by implementing best European practices in climate change prevention, adaptation, and mitigation.

Objective of the activity:

1. Ensuring synergy of educational, scientific, managerial and
industrial components for climate management and mitigation
climate in the partner countries of the CLIMAN project;

2. Organizing research in the field of climate management and accelerating the integration of partner countries into the global climate market to implement international requirements for climate regulation by implementing the best European practices in the field of climate change prevention, adaptation and minimization of the effects of climate change;

3. To promote the development and strengthening of the institutional capacity of partner universities to develop recommendations for the industrial, transport, energy, agricultural, tourism sectors of the economy and local authorities in the field of climate change prevention, adaptation and mitigation;

4. Modernize the curriculum by developing new and innovative courses and methodologies with an emphasis on the interdisciplinary priority of climate change.

Areas of activity of the Center:

  • Raising public awareness of environmental issues and the effects of climate change.
  • Raising the educational level of representatives of state authorities, local governments, businesses and the public on climate management issues.
  • Scientific and methodological support for management decision-making to overcome climate problems and implement climate change adaptation measures.
  • Providing consulting services related to the implementation of climate management at the local, regional and national levels, as well as in all sectors of the national economy.
  • Ensuring the collection of detailed and verified data on climate change and greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Conducting sectoral research on risk assessment, vulnerability and climate change forecasting in the areas of water management, biodiversity conservation, forestry, agriculture and soil, energy, transport and infrastructure, public health, tourism and recreation.
  • Ensuring that current and projected climate change impacts are taken into account in strategic planning at the national, regional and local levels.
  • Analyzing the impact of climate change on natural and cultural heritage sites and tourist attractions, planning and implementing appropriate measures to preserve these sites.
  • Promotion of modern climate-saving technologies, achievements of scientific and technological progress in climate security.
  • Organizing cooperation with scientific and educational institutions, international organizations (foundations, programs, universities).
  • The Center may carry out other activities provided for by the University Charter and not prohibited by the legislation of Ukraine related to the main activities of the University.

Functions of the Center:

  • Research and analysis: The Center's activities are aimed at conducting interdisciplinary research and preparing analytical materials by the faculty and students in cooperation with university partners on specific topics related to climate management.
  • Providing information and advisory services: The Center can provide stakeholders with information and recommendations based on its research and analysis, helping them to make informed decisions on issues related to climate management.
  • Promoting intercultural dialogue and scientific cooperation: The Center promotes better global understanding and international cooperation in the areas of climate by organizing forums, conferences, seminars, and other events, as well as collaborating with other organizations and institutions through internships and participation in international projects.
  • Educational innovations: the Center's activities are aimed at promoting educational innovations in the field of climate research by exploring new ideas and approaches to solving complex problems faced by the world today and popularizing them in the professional environment through the creation of educational platforms for online courses and discussions.
