In the period from September 4 to September 8, 2023, representatives of the Western Ukrainian National University: Project Coordinator, Director of the Educational and Research Center for Innovative Development and Training Olena Borysiak; Director of the Educational and Research Institute of Innovation, Environmental Management and Infrastructure Vasyl Brych; Head of the Department of Agribiotechnology Antin Shuvar; and Deputy Director of the Educational and Research Institute of Sustainable Development Ulyana Tkach took part in a five-day study visit dedicated to cooperation with stakeholders on climate management and sustainable development. The event was held at Mykolas Romeris University (Lithuania), within the framework of the project 619119-EPP-1-2020-1-NL-EPPKA2-CBHE-JP “Synergy of educational, scientific, managerial and industrial components for climate management and climate change prevention” / CLIMAN (Erasmus+ Program, Neighborhood, Development and International Cooperation Instrument, Objective CA2: Higher Education Capacity Building).
The goal of this program was to deepen the project participants’ knowledge of the importance and intricacies of effective stakeholder cooperation in addressing climate change, promoting sustainable development, and managing environmental challenges.
The curriculum included participation in lectures, trainings, and workshops on the climate management system in the European Union. The topics covered included the introduction of methods for applying nature-based solutions in the urban environment; the use of statistical methods in environmental management; environmental mapping opportunities; ways to involve stakeholders in the implementation of environmental services in the areas.
The final stage of the project’s curriculum was a presentation of the completed task by each group of participants. The team from the ZUNU delegation was presented by Ulyana Tkach and Olena Borysiak on the topic “Nature-based Solutions to prevent urban flooding and urban heat stress in the City of Vilnius”. In general, the project participants gained excellent experience and knowledge about the impact of climate change on the environment, as well as the application of nature-based solutions in urban spaces.
