The following issues were discussed during the lecture:

  1. The concept of smart specialization.
  2. Implementation mechanisms and examples of successful application in Europe and Ukraine.
  3. Analysis of the potential of smart specialization for the regions of Ukraine.
  4. Challenges and obstacles in implementing the Smart Specialization concept.
  5. Practical steps to implement the Smart.

The lecture for the Master’s degree was conducted by Ulyana Tkach, PhD in Economics, Associate Professor, an expert of the Smart Specialization: European Experience of Regional Development Strategy project.

The lecturer focused on the benefits of Smart specialization for the regions of Ukraine. In particular, she noted that the implementation of the Smart Specialization strategy is clearly leading to economic growth in the most promising sectors of the region’s economy; increasing the competitiveness at the national and international levels of areas unique to the region; creating new jobs; improving the quality of life and investment climate in the region.

An interesting stage of the lecture was the demonstration of real successful cases of applying the concept of Smart specialization in Ukraine. Namely: IT and creative industries in Lviv, agriculture in Vinnytsia region, and biotechnology in Kyiv region.

Thus, the class came to the conclusion that the Smart Specialization strategy is a powerful tool for enhancing regional development in Ukraine. It allows for efficient use of available resources, attracting investments and stimulating innovation, which ultimately leads to sustainable economic growth and improved quality of life.

We invite everyone to attend the lecture series and take an active part in studying the European experience of the smart specialization regional development strategy!
